Frequently asked questions

You’ve got questions, and we’ve got answers. Not all of them, of course… but the ones we have encountered most frequently. If yours isn’t on here, just give us a call.

Does USA Leaks do plumbing?

Not only do we do plumbing, we’re consistently the top-rated plumber in the Tampa Bay area. We specialize in any kind of plumbing. No job is too big or small. We service any commercial business or home in Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco counties.

How invasive is the leak detection process? Will it damage my property?

The vast majority of leaks can be detected without destructive means. However, for some leaks which are not under pressure, other diagnostic techniques like opening up a wall, ceiling, or floor may be necessary. Rest assured that all the facts will be explained to you upfront so you can decide the best course of action. Ultimately, though, leaks must be found or they can cause much more insidious issues.

Do you fix leaks too?

We do not. One of the reasons why we are so proficient at identifying leaks is because that’s our sole focus. We will mark the location of the leak and give you our opinion of the various next-steps you’re looking at. Some repair scenarios require the services of a professional plumber, but many do not. For example, sometimes the cause of the problem is a leaky toilet flapper—which is something most homeowners can easily fix.

Do you offer any guarantees or warranties with your services?

If we cannot find the source of the problem that you are experiencing, then you don’t pay. Many leaks are in walls and underground, which means we can’t physically see them. We’ve done thousands of detections, and sometimes—due to many factors—a technician cannot be 100% sure of the location of a problem. Those instances are rare, but if it occurs, we will be completely honest with you about our diagnosis.

What kind of leak detection equipment do you use?

A professional leak locator has many tools at their disposal to isolate the source of a leak. Oftentimes, plumbing knowledge is extremely helpful. Even though we don’t do plumbing anymore, the people at our company have many decades of of plumbing experience. Above all else, “the right tool for the job” is the most important leak detection strategy to abide by. Regardless of the tactic required, all of our equipment is the most advanced in the industry.

Why don't more leak detection service companies take on pool leaks?

It’s true that most companies who find leaks steer clear of pools. The main reasons—which are two very sensical ones—are a lack of experience and the lack of the proper pool leak diagnostic equipment. In many ways, locating pool leaks is much different than finding other kinds of leaks and requires completely different equipment and knowledge than most leak detection companies have.

How dangerous is mold?

Potentially, extremely dangerous. Which is why, if you suspect a leak, getting it identified and fixed as quickly as possibly is of paramount importance.

Should I let a plumber try to find my leak?

Perhaps, but any given plumbing company isn’t going to perform nearly as many leak locations as a company where that’s all they do. Nor will most plumbers spend the money necessary to get the most sophisticated leak detection equipment. Leak detection—probably even more than most other skillsets—requires a great deal of experience to become highly proficient.

Do you offer free estimates or consultations?

Yes. Unlike a lot of companies, we never charge a trip fee—which means a fee merely to show up at your front door. Before we get started, you will know exactly what our estimate is.

How soon can you send someone out to inspect for leaks?

You are a GIANT priority to us. Which is why we are open 7 days a week. While each workday is unique—and daily call count and customer locations are never the same—getting to your house to diagnosis the location of your leak in a timely fashion is what we strive for. It is rare indeed when we have to schedule a call for the next day, but it occasionally happens. Regardless, we will be out to you as soon as humanly possible. You matter to us more than you know.

Can you find the cause of leaks in commercial buildings?

We sure can. And do every day. No job is too big for us to tackle.

How often should I have my property checked for leaks?

Plumbing almost seems alive—meaning that it is NOT a static situation. What was okay yesterday in the plumbing system might not be today or tomorrow. Remember that, other than fires, nothing can destroy a house or other building faster than a big leak (or cause health issues like smaller hidden leaks resulting in mold). All that adds up to the undeniable fact that it’s a really good idea to do preventative inspections to identify possible sources of leaks before they can become major problems. As part of our service, we offer free inspections of your house and pool so that the technician can share with you what they found.

What are the common signs that I might have a hidden leak?

A high water bill (not all leaks are visible); drywall that has soft spot(s); water stains; gaseous or musty smells, mold; squishy areas in the yard; and insects (like fruit flies) are common indicators.
